50 things...no. 13

"Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day...and that's the way baseball is." ~Bob Feller

"My motto was always to 'Keep Swinging'. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly, or having trouble off the field...the only thing to do was keep swinging."
-Hank Aaron

In our household you can tell that it's spring not when the flowers start to bloom in the yard or when we finally put away our winter coats..but when the baseball paraphernalia starts showing up in our garage. My son started playing baseball when he was 5 years old...and he's now 14. Besides playing the game, he also has a part-time job as an umpire. My husband coaches my son's team and is also one of the main volunteers for the rec league. Oh, and did I mention that my 16 year old daughter works in the snack bar at the baseball fields? It's safe to say that we are a baseball family...and I'm so grateful for all that the game has given us.
My husband gets to show the kids the importance of volunteering in the community. My son gets to know the importance of being a part of a team. He also is learning about sportsmanship and perseverance...and he gets to have fun too! By working, my son & daughter are learning responsibility and how to save money. And me...I get to sit in the stands with some of the nicest parents...and do many loads of laundry trying to get grass stains out of baseball pants...and fit in healthy meals between school & practice...and also play chauffeur. I wouldn't trade one second of the time that we've spent at the fields (except for maybe that one night the game went into extra innings on a cold evening in March)!
